This Is Why Meghan Markle Always Wears Shoes That Are Slightly Too Big For Her

Ever since she married into the British royal family this past May, Meghan Markle has wowed the world with her keen sense of fashion. She follows royal protocol (mostly) while also looking chic. But one aspect of her personal style has been confusing people for months: Her shoes are always too big.

N0w some aspects of Meghan's outfits are mandated by Kensington Palace — those stylish hats, for instance. (Women must wear hats to all formal occasions, according to royal protocol.) But why would the royal family force her to wear shoes that look like they're always on the verge of falling off her feet? It's got to be a weird habit she picked up somewhere else, right?

Well, get this: A fashion expert (finally) explained the reasoning behind Meghan's shoe choices in an interview with the Sun, and it turns out the Duchess of Sussex's shoes are purposefully oversized for a very important reason…

Ever since her May wedding to Prince Harry, the 36-year-old former actress has been developing a distinct sense of style that's uniquely her own.

Her shoe choices, however, are throwing everyone off.

Specifically, the size of said shoes.

Specifically, the fact that they are always too big.

That's right: Capping off all of Meghan's flawless outfits is a pair of slightly too-roomy shoes.

The look raises an important question: WHY?

Why would Meghan Markle — a woman who could realistically wear any shoes in the world — always opt for a pair that doesn't fit her properly?

Apparently, there is a reason for this madness, according to fashion expert Harriet Davey.

"Celebs often go a size up, or even two, in the shoe department when they're at an event or on the red carpet and it's for one reason we can all relate to — to avoid blisters," Harriet told the Sun.

"There's nothing worse than uncomfortable shoes (we've all been there on a night out) and when celebs like Meghan are wearing heels for a long period of time their feet can often swell up," she continued. "The swelling can cause blisters and in the long run bunions — like long-time heel fan Victoria Beckham has been rumored to suffer with."

That might answer our original question, but now we're wondering: How do these big-shoe-wearing celebs manage to keep them on their feet?

“A trick of the trade is to stuff the toe with padding like tissue or cotton wool, and this can be taken out once they feel like they need a bit more room in their shoes,” explains Harriet.

OK, wow.
