Just when you think people can't get any more ridiculous, someone offers to pay her babysitter in "ice cream and fun" instead of actual money.
An anonymous college student babysat a woman's two kids for some extra cash for textbooks. At first, everything went according to plan. Both the babysitter and the mom agreed on a rate of $16 per hour. The day went smoothly, and everyone shared some ice cream.
Afterward, the sitter texted the mom to set up a time to collect her payment — $128 for the whole day.
"I wasn't aware payment was involved. You got free ice cream and a day of fun… I'm sorry for the misinterpretation," the mom replied.
The babysitter responded by clarifying that, yeah, this is a job for her.
"I'm sorry, but as much as I love seeing your kids I am doing this for payment. Exclusively," she said.
But the mom wouldn't budge — and she soon became the laughing stock of social media.

A student babysitter recently decided to watch a woman's two kids for extra money, because textbooks cost approximately $1,000,000 these days.

The babysitter ironed out the details with her new client over text, agreeing on a rate of $16 per hour for the day.
At first, things went off without a hitch — there was ice cream and fun, and probably also games and homework and stress. We all know how babysitting goes.

Afterward, the babysitter texted the mom to set up a time to collect her payment.

And that's when things went terribly wrong.
This mom is possibly the cheapest mom ever.

The babysitter sent screenshots of the entire conversation to her sister, who then posted them to Reddit.
You can see from the beginning that this woman is not reasonable. Ice cream as payment? Really?

After being shown proof of the $16 per hour agreement, the mom seemingly decided to play dumb.

And then she had the nerve to offer $20 for an entire day of babysitting.

The babysitter attempted to stand her ground. She even lowered the total to $100 in a bid to get something reasonable for her day of work.
In return, she got cursed out and blocked.

The Reddit post has received 71,000 likes and counting, because ICE CREAM?!
Commenters were in complete disbelief.

These antics would never fly in most industries.

Because "ice cream and fun" isn't a valid form of payment here on Planet Earth.

Many folks encouraged the babysitter to take the mom to small claims court, which was made for swindles like this.

And luckily, the story has a happy ending.
After some initial hesitation, the babysitter did pursue the matter further — and she got her check, according to an update from the sister.
By that point, the story had already gone so viral that it wound up on the morning news. There's nothing like a slight public shaming!

Justice served.
