Sometimes a parent’s love truly shines when they do something for their child that simply allows them to feel like everybody else while simultaneously showing them just how special they are.
Morgan Hartman was born with both physical and cognitive challenges, but one thing she has never lacked was a contagious smile and positive spirit. CBS News reports how Morgan’s dad took inspiration from his daughter to create a fully accessible theme park in San Antonio, Texas.
Gordon Hartman looks at his daughter Morgan with nothing but love, which is exactly why when they were on a family vacation in 2006 and she wasn’t able to participate with a group of kids in a fun pool activity, it broke his heart.
“It gives you a sad feeling that all Morgan wanted to do was to participate. She wanted to play,” Gordon explains.
After seeing his daughter experience such feelings of exclusion, Gordon set out to build a fun place for families of all ages where no one would feel left out. His big idea was an inclusive and accessible theme park. He had previous experience as a builder and sought out advice from experts to create what would be called Morgan’s Wonderland.

Gordon notes that Morgan’s Wonderland isn’t just for individuals with disabilities, it’s for anyone to come and enjoy, but he also made sure that every single ride and feature was designed to be “ultra-accessible.”
It’s believed to be the only theme park like it in the world. There’s a sports center, an outdoor adventure park, a Ferris wheel, a zipline, and even a water park.
