Octavia Spencer's family is grappling with an unimaginable loss.
The actress took to Instagram to share the heartbreaking news that her nephew, the only child of her sister, had died. Octavia didn't share any details as to how he died or how old he was. Instead, she mourned his place in their family and reflected on the strong feelings that have followed.
"Grief," Octavia wrote simply to begin the caption of her post.
"You wouldn’t know it by this picture that today was the second worst day of my life."
Days after celebrating her 52nd birthday, Octavia Spencer is dealing with a devastating family situation. The actress took to Instagram to share that her family was mourning the loss of her nephew.
"My family lost the first of the next generation of us, and we're gutted," Octavia wrote.
"Grief is the most terrifying of emotions because I can't laugh my way out of it. I have to feel."
"Right now, I'm feeling for my sister who lost her only son. Her only child," she continued.
"If you're praying people, pray for her and my brother in law. I also ask for privacy as we deal with this tremendous loss. ."
Octavia has two sisters, Areka and Rosa Spencer. She did not reveal which sister experienced the loss, or how it happened. She also turned off comments on the post.
That said, Octavia has gotten an outpouring of support from famous friends. She thanked Ron Cephas Jones, Gabrielle Union, Tami Roman, and Tracie Thoms for "carrying me on your shoulders this week. And thanks to everyone who sent love and prayers my way: I’ve felt them. ."
