Paralyzed Teen With Rare Disorder Walks For The First Time In Six Years

You never know what can happen from day to day. We spend a lot of our time worrying about the future, about parts of our daily lives that have a direct consequence on our well-being. Such concerns would be predictable, like finances, or family matters. But others are less predictable. If one is completely healthy, why would we worry about falling deathly ill? As humans, a part of us needs a warning before anything with a major bearing on our lives occurs, but reality doesn't always function that way.

The parents of a young boy named Kyle certainly weren't prepared for what doctors told them. They thought their 10-year-old son just had a cold, but as his condition worsened in the hospital, doctors told the frustrated parents to expect the worst. They diagnosed Kyle with Guillain-Barré syndrome, a rare neurological condition. Soon, Kyle wasn't even able to breathe or blink on his own.

But now, six years later, the teen is making strides toward recovery. Although he's been paralyzed for the past six years, he has taken his first steps, with a little help. He has set some goals for himself: to walk up a flight of stairs, and to walk down the aisle at his brother's wedding.
