Patrick Mahomes is officially a dad! The NFL player and his fiancée, Brittany Matthews, welcomed a baby girl to their family this year, and it's the first child for both.
Patrick and Brittany announced the news on Instagram, not shying away from the details. "Sterling Skye Mahomes 2/20/21 6lbs 11oz," Brittany's account said.
It's unclear as to whether or not their pregnancy was planned, as they did push back their wedding once learning about the arrival. But no matter what, Patrick and Brittany will likely make their way down the aisle. The two started dating as teenagers, and their love continued to blossom as Patrick's athletic career started.
The Kansas City Chiefs quarterback notably proposed to his girlfriend back in 2020. He made the event very special and didn't skimp on any details. After it happened, Brittany shared the photos in her Instagram stories. "My heart is so full! I love this man so incredibly much and today was so so special!" she said.
They announced news of the pregnancy soon after the proposal. "Mom & Dad, taking a small detour to the wedding❤️," Brittany wrote on Instagram. The picture she shared was incredibly sweet, with both her and her husband-to-be looking lovingly at a sonogram. The pair of them look very happy about the news.
While Patrick may be the bigger name — especially after playing in the last two Super Bowls — Brittany also has a fascinating career. The two managed to stay strong even though they went to different colleges in Texas. Brittany attended the University of Texas at Tyler to play soccer, so she's quite an athlete in her own right.
Patrick attended Texas Tech University, which is located nowhere near Brittany's school. For many couples, this is often where a relationship ends. But Brittany and Patrick knew they could survive long distance — and did. Based on their paths, it wouldn't be the last time the two had to deal with a long separation.
Brittany was actually located in Iceland for sports back in May 2017. Even different continents didn't stop their relationship from going strong. "An opportunity opened up for me in Iceland and I could never pass up such an amazing experience to go do what I love," she told the Tyler Morning Telegraph. She also explained in the interview that she wasn't in love with soccer when she first started playing but got more and more into it as competitions began.
After Patrick's success, the two decided to call Kansas City home. Leaving soccer behind temporarily, Brittany chose to start up her own fitness brand, called Brittany Lynne Fitness. So she's still working quite actively on a new venture and carving a name for herself.
Hopefully the Chiefs continue to be a good fit for Patrick, as he and Brittany seem very invested in Kansas City. They bought a home, and Patrick has been especially motivated by the fans and neighbors they have. According to USA Today, he's been so grateful that he's even worn his Chiefs jersey to read Oh, the Places You'll Go! to children at his local library.
"I want to be back in the community, giving back. And just be a part of it, to show the same love and passion to them," Patrick said. He's not afraid to go out on the town, even if that means being approached by fans. Hopefully, baby Sterling will also create plenty of memories in Kansas City.
It's one of the many reasons why Patrick is so popular — he seems very down to earth. In his mind, he's focused most on doing a good job and being an asset to the Chiefs. "He's just going in there with confidence, talking with everybody, making the calls and staying on top of things," running back Kareem Hunt reported to USA Today. "He really wants to win and be a good quarterback."
But it's his dedication toward Brittany that shows his true character. He knows what he wants, and he's confident enough to get it. These two are each other's best friends, and they refused to let both distance and their very strenuous careers stop them from keeping their relationship strong. Sterling has two very sweet and loving parents who'll be doting on her every day.
That said, technically, Sterling isn't their first "child." That honor likely goes to Steel and Silver, the couples' two dogs. While the pups will probably take some time getting used to the new arrival, surely they're both just as excited. Their jobs? Instagram dog influencers, of course.
Steel and Silver are a pit bull and a cane corso, and chances are, they're also neighborhood celebrities. They currently have over 200,000 followers on Instagram, and that number continues to rise. Knowing that Brittany and Patrick are dog lovers is just yet another reason to constantly root for their beautiful family.
It'll be wonderful to see Sterling, Silver, and Steel all present at Patrick and Brittany's upcoming wedding. It'll be a beautiful celebration to officially pronounce the everlasting love the couple has had for each other since they were only teenagers. What would be better than a dog ring bearer? Two dog ring bearers.
Patrick is a wonderful example to showcase that not all celebrities or athletes let their profession and their spotlight interfere with their families and loved ones. Even those who aren't fans of the Chiefs have to admit that Patrick has a lot of heart. These two are going to really enjoy their parenting journey, and they've already nailed the first step at making newborn life less hectic — and that's working as a team.
