Dad Carries Son Out Of Flaming Home, Then Suddenly Realizes A Child Is Still Stuck Inside

Phillip Shaner went from typical dad to hero in the blink of an eye.

Phillip, his wife Jennifer Profitt, their daughter, and their two sons had just returned to their home after a long day of running errands together, when something unusual happened, threatening their lives.

The family sniffed around and smelled smoke coming from their garage. Somehow, a fire had started and began expanding rapidly all over the house.

"It was a matter of seconds," the dad says in the video below, posted on February 7, 2017. "The flames shot up at me."

Phillip and his wife rushed to evacuate the fiery home with their children. Then the heroic dad realized that his youngest son wasn't standing outside with them. Once it hit Phillip that his child was still inside the burning home, he didn't even think, he just darted right back in.

Suddenly, he heard his boy coughing through all the thick smoke.

"I had a matter of maybe two minutes. I broke a big bay window," Phillip explains. He smashed through the glass with a nearby footstool and plucked his son from danger.

The family's home is now a skeleton of what it once was.

"They just think that we'll fix it, because you know, when they break a toy, 'Oh, Daddy will fix it.' And Daddy fixes it. You can't fix this," Jennifer says, acknowledging that her two special-needs sons aren't fully aware that their home is gone.

Despite the tragedy, the family doesn't forget how lucky they are to have survived such a scary moment.

"I'm more or less just happy that, you know, I got my family out," the brave dad says. "You know, home is wherever your family is and your family can't be replaced."
