Even though Prince Harry may have thought that moving his family would help them avoid some negative headlines, he's still been in the news quite a lot recently. Luckily, it's not quite as bad as it once was.
For one, he's been vocal about how to best handle the coronavirus pandemic. Harry and Meghan posted a wonderful statement on their Instagram about how to proceed from here. "We are all in this together, and as a global community, we can support each other through this process — and build a digital neighbourhood that feels safe for every one of us," they stated. Like the rest of the world, they're trying hard to keep some distance.
Distance is, apparently, also a reason as to why he wanted to move his family to Canada in the first place. It was obvious that the press was bullying Meghan to a terrifying degree. But now a source for Us Weekly states that the distance was also important for his son, Archie.
"He wants to shield his son from the negativity and tension he would’ve been exposed to back in England," the source said.
Not surprisingly, a lot of that is based on Harry's own upbringing.
Prince Harry is the youngest child of Princess Diana, who died in a tragic and fatal accident in 1997. At the time, Diana was only 36 years old. Much like Meghan, the tabloids couldn't get enough information about her. While she was universally beloved, she was also a prime target of gossip based on her shaky marriage to Prince Charles.
Even after her death, sources couldn't stop speculating about her. For Prince Harry, who was only 12 at the time of her death, it was a lot to process. Losing a parent is difficult, but it's even harder when the world can't stop talking about it and using it to sell magazines. A second insider told US Weekly that Harry "knows what it’s like to grow up in the spotlight, and he wants to give Archie the most normal upbringing possible."
Harry is in a unique position. It's very unlikely that he'll ever gain the throne, but his life is still very public. He's never had a sense of privacy and very likely still isn't over the events from his childhood. It makes sense that in having his own child, Harry would want Archie to have every opportunity that he didn't.
Archie, who was born in May of 2019, is Prince Harry's first child. He and Meghan Markle have been very cautious about the amount of information they put out there. While there have been some pictures, there's far more information circulating about Prince William and Kate Middleton's three children.
Prince Harry's attempts to keep his family safe are very brave. He also started lawsuits against publications like Daily Mail for constantly dragging his wife in headlines and stories. The press hasn't been kind to Meghan. In comparison to the types of coverage Kate gets, it's almost horrifying how Meghan has been blamed for everything within the royal family.
“There comes a point when the only thing to do is to stand up to this behaviour, because it destroys people and destroys lives," Prince Harry said, in regard to the lawsuits, per Cosmopolitan. "Put simply, it is bullying, which scares and silences people. We all know this isn’t acceptable, at any level. We won’t and can’t believe in a world where there is no accountability for this."
"I’ve seen what happens when someone I love is commoditized to the point that they are no longer treated or seen as a real person," he continued. "I lost my mother and now I watch my wife falling victim to the same powerful forces." In cases like that, sometimes distance is the answer.
While the public rightfully doesn't know exactly what the situation is between Prince Harry and Prince William, aside from the fact that things are strained, distance would be the suggestion that most people would give for members outside of the royal family. Sometimes, you just need to go your own way before things get too heavy.
The biggest issue here is that to this day, people are blaming Meghan for their decision. Even though Meghan and Archie are new members of the royal family, it's hard to pin this decision on her. Prince Harry is a grown adult, and he has every right to do what he can to make things better for the people he loves.
Us Weekly insiders have had nothing but good to report about baby Archie. He seems very happy, and Harry and Meghan seem like dedicated and loving parents. Without a doubt, Archie will have a great childhood surrounded by happy memories. And hopefully, that will help Prince Harry truly be able to move forward and process his own childhood.
Luckily, Meghan and Harry were able to spend some time with their family in the UK before the coronavirus truly took over. Insiders still say that Harry is extremely worried about the health of his aging family during this time. The Queen, especially, as she's getting ready to celebrate her 94th birthday in April.
"Meghan said [Harry] has been in contact with both his father and grandmother. He urged them to stay safe and to take extra precautions," said a royal insider, according to Fox News. The source states that Meghan is also doing everything she can to make sure her family stays safe. Supposedly the people working for them all need to wear gloves.
“Only a select few will be able to interact with her, Harry and Archie. She said she's keeping it to a bare minimum," the insider added. But that doesn't mean they're just sitting around and waiting for things to pass. "Meghan said just because they are isolating themselves, it doesn't mean they can't help. They aren't just sitting around at home doing nothing," the insider noted.
It's good to know that Harry and Meghan are both taking this so seriously. This pandemic is very scary, but it's important that we all work together and keep our distance in order to prevent hospitals from becoming overwhelmed, resulting in unnecessary deaths. Hopefully, Harry manages to stay in touch with his extended family in order to make sure everything is OK.
