Prince Harry And Meghan Markle Are Mulling Naming Their Baby After A Member Of The Family

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are reportedly due to welcome their daughter Earthside sometime in the next few weeks. There's understandably a lot of excitement, and many fans of the couple can't wait to find out what the pair will name their daughter.

There is plenty of speculation that the name will honor a member of the family, though Meghan and Harry eschewed that tradition when they named their son Archie. However, a lot of emphasis is being placed on the pair honoring Harry's grandmother with the baby name in some way.

It's been reported that the two have a special name picked out that does exactly that.

Some fans believe the couple will name their daughter Lily as a nod to the Queen, who often signs personal correspondence with her nickname, Lilibet. The name has typically been used only by the Queen's family, and Prince Philip was especially fond of using it.

A spokesperson for betting service BoyleSports recently explained that though Lily is gaining traction at a rapid pace, there is still one decisive fan favorite. "Diana is the clear favourite in our market but that hasn’t put punters off predicting some other potential names. Lily is the biggest mover of the week into 25/1 from 66/1 while Grace tumbled into 16/1 from 50/1 last week as royal watchers continue to speculate with some well-based theories."

Harry and Meghan are understandably protective of their daughter and haven't offered too many details yet. But sharp-eyed fans of the pair have come to their own conclusions, and many of those theories are pretty fun to read and think about.

Harry and Meghan chose to announce on Valentine's Day 2021 that they were expecting their second baby, and many years ago, Princess Diana also announced her second pregnancy with Prince Harry on Valentine's Day.

The baby's birth is extra special to the pair. They have both been open about their plans to not have any more children after their daughter is born, and Harry explained to Oprah, "To have any child, any one or any two, would be amazing, but to have a boy and then a girl, what more can you ask for? Now we've got our family. We've got the four of us and our two dogs, and it's great."

Meghan recently spoke about the pair's excitement about welcoming their daughter. While addressing viewers at the Global Citizen Vax Live event, she said, "My husband and I are thrilled to soon be welcoming a daughter. It’s a feeling of joy we share with millions of other families around the world. When we think of her, we think of all the other families around the globe who must be given the ability and support to lead us forward. Their future leadership depends on the decisions we make and the actions we take now to set them up and to set all of us up for a successful, equitable, and compassionate tomorrow."

Meghan has also reportedly decided to not have a baby shower ahead of her daughter's arrival. A source told Us Weekly that Meghan doesn't think the timing is right. "Meghan doesn’t feel a big baby shower with gifts is appropriate right now. There is too much strife in the world. She and Harry have been so involved with humanitarian issues, they both feel their time and resources can be used for a better purpose."
