The second half of the Netflix series Harry & Meghan was released on December 15, 2022. The three episodes that round out the docuseries are full of details about some of the most stressful parts of Harry and Meghan's life together: the loss of their second pregnancy, the lead-up to their wedding, and their infamous decision to step back from royal duties in January 2020.
The latter is a major feature in one episode of the series, and Prince Harry has opened up about how his family really reacted to the decision.
Harry shares that he hoped to organize a meeting with his family, himself, and Meghan. He says, "I sent an email to the three most senior private secretaries saying, 'Let's have a meeting, let's get together and have a meeting and talk about this.' Because what was happening, what was playing out in public was crazy. And that meeting was rejected."
Then Harry reveals that his family only opened up to a meeting after Meghan had left the country. He says, "It was only once Meg had left and gone back to Canada that it was then arranged that there was going to be a meeting at Sandringham on the following Monday."
Meghan adds, "Imagine a conversation, a roundtable discussion about the future of your life. When the stakes are this high. And you as the mom and the wife and the target, in many regards, aren't invited to have a seat at the table."
Once Harry did get a chance to speak with his family, it was clear that his older brother Prince William was furious. Harry adds, "It became very clear very quickly that that goal was not up for discussion or debate. It was terrifying to have my brother scream and shout at me, and my father say things that simply weren't true and my grandmother quietly sit there and sort of take it all in."
