Prince William Finally Gets The COVID-19 Vaccine After Contracting The Disease Last Year

The royal family has kept pretty quiet about their vaccination status for the most part. We learned that Queen Elizabeth and the late Prince Philip had received the first dose of their COVID-19 vaccines in January. A month later, Prince Charles and Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall followed suit.

Since then, however, there had been no official word of any other royals' status. That changed on Thursday, when Prince William shared a photo of himself getting the first dose of the vaccine. He thanked the hardworking professionals who have made the moment possible.

William himself privately battled COVID-19 last year, reportedly having a harder time with it than his father, Prince Charles.

Prince William is publicly showing support for vaccination by sharing the moment he got his first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine. The photo, shared on Instagram Thursday, shows the Duke of Cambridge getting his shot last week.

"On Tuesday I received my first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine," he wrote.

"To all those working on the vaccine rollout – thank you for everything you’ve done and continue to do."

There's no word at this time as to whether or not Kate Middleton has also been vaccinated. Queen Elizabeth, Prince Charles, and Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall all received their vaccines earlier this year. COVID-19 has been hard on the royal family, with two members known to have contracted the illness.

Prince Charles tested positive for COVID-19 in late March 2020. Thankfully, he exhibited only mild symptoms and was able to recover relatively easily. The same was not true for Prince William, who tested positive just weeks after his father.

"William was hit pretty hard by the virus — it really knocked him for six," a source told The Sun.

"At one stage he was struggling to breathe, so obviously everyone around him was pretty panicked. After seeing medics and testing positive — which was obviously quite a shock given how fit and healthy he is — William was determined it should be business as usual though."

William reportedly decided to keep his diagnosis quiet after the public was shocked by Prince Charles' and Boris Johnson's positive cases just days apart.

"He felt there were more important things going on in the country," the source said.

"But as a result of his own experiences, he realises absolutely anyone can catch this awful disease — and knows how imperative it is that we all take this second lockdown seriously."
