Princess Beatrice and Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi followed up their quiet wedding with an equally low-key honeymoon. The newlyweds decided to take a drive to the south of France for a simple honeymoon together, the Daily Mail reports.
The getaway is a smaller celebration until they can enjoy a bigger honeymoon, a source told People magazine. Originally, a honeymoon trip to Lamu Island, a Kenyan island where Edo's family owns a home, was planned. Like their original wedding plans, COVID-19 closures and travel restrictions made the getaway impossible.
The decision to head to France was a last-minute one by the couple. They embarked on the special getaway with Edo behind the wheel, as a tourist observed.
The impromptu wedding and honeymoon appear as bizarre to some royal fans as the trajectory of the entire relationship. Edo has known the Yorks for a long time. The timeline of his relationship with Beatrice and his split from ex Dara Huang has long been questioned.
Shortly after their surprise nuptials weeks ago, Princess Beatrice and Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi enjoyed an impromptu honeymoon in France. It wasn't part of the couple's original wedding plans. They showcased some flexibility, as they have before, because of COVID-19's impact on their planned wedding events.
Beatrice and Edo were initially due to get married in May, with receptions held in the Queen's gardens at Buckingham Palace. Following the wedding, the couple was due to head to Lamu Island, a Kenyan island where Edo's family owns a home. After plans were canceled, it was believed the wedding wouldn't take place until next spring.
The couple married on July 17 at the Royal Chapel of All Saints at Royal Lodge, Windsor. A reception followed at Beatrice's parents' home.
"The wedding was arranged in a couple of weeks, and with lockdown, their choice of honeymoon destinations was severely curtailed," a source told the Daily Mail.
The couple was so grateful to get the opportunity to get married that they were OK with scrapping their honeymoon plans. "They weren't going to bother but at the last minute they decided to pack up the car and head out," the source noted.
"They're a very down-to-earth couple."
The couple drove to the south of France, with a tourist spotting them as they got into the area. They were in "a small car absolutely packed to the roof with stuff."
"It was such a surprise to see them," the tourist said. "Edo was behind the wheel and they looked just like any other couple enjoying the beautiful drive."
With the marriage, Beatrice has become a stepmom to Edo's 4-year-old son Christopher Woolf, who goes by Wolfie. Sources have indicated that the relationship between Beatrice and Wolfie has been great.
The Daily Mail acknowledges a rocky start to Beatrice's co-parenting relationship with Wolfie's mother, Edo's ex-fiancée Dara Huang.
Edo was still living with Dara when he connected with Beatrice at Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank's 2018 wedding. It is unclear whether Edo and Dara were still an item at the time. By the new year, Beatrice and Edo were rumored to be together, making their public debut in March 2019. Whatever happened there, Dara wasn't so fond of his relationship with Beatrice at first.
"Dara was devastated at the beginning but she has always maintained good relations for the sake of their son," a friend told the Daily Mail.
It was also an odd time for Beatrice to find herself in a new relationship. She was still raw from her breakup with her boyfriend of 10 years, Dave Clark, two years prior. Dave got married just two months before Beatrice and Edo caught each other's eye at Eugenie's wedding.
Although the circumstances around the early days of the relationship are iffy, Beatrice and Edo's love grew deeper. As a result, she and Dara learned how to better deal with one another.
"‘She and Beatrice get along well. Beatrice is very kind and sweet to Wolfie," a friend noted.
It seems they'll all be seeing more of each other in London. It's been reported the Dara is moving her architecture firm, Design Haus Liberty, into the same building where Edo runs his property management business out of in West London. Surely, it will make co-parenting easier for the two to have a common base.
