Donald Trump Jr.’s eldest child, Kai Trump, recently celebrated her 19th birthday. Her father celebrated the occasion with an Instagram post featuring several different photos of Kai over the years, and while a lot of people simply wished Kai a happy birthday, some found the post inappropriate.
To be fair, basically anything that members of the Trump family post on social media sparks some level of backlash. A lot of the negative comments accuse the family of flaunting their wealth, grifting, and having absolutely no ability (or desire?) to read the room. While this post did garner comments like this, a lot of the criticism seemed to be about the photos Don Jr. chose to include in the birthday post.
Some of the photos he shared showed Kai in a bikini.
Critics pointed out that Kai has never shared any bikini photos of herself online, so the fact that her dad did seems inappropriate and weird, OK! Magazine reported. We can only hope that Don Jr. got Kai’s permission before sharing the photos publicly (she is tagged in the post).
However, a few people were clearly disgusted by his decision to post these photos. The hate comments were directed at Kai’s dad, not her. “What a horrible father and person you are,” one critic commented on the post.
Another critic said that the post reminded them of how President Donald Trump has treated his daughter Ivanka. “This whole family is a disgrace,” they concluded.
Some of the comments had less to do with the actual post, though.
Don Jr. captioned the birthday post with, “Happy birthday to my absolute favorite 19 year old child. @kaitrumpgolfer I love you and continue to be amazed at the woman you’re becoming.”
His current partner, Bettina Anderson, commented, “I can’t believe you have a kid in college! 👴😉😘😘😘😘” But some of the other comments on the post just seemed to be irrelevant messages that people wanted to share with Don Jr., which, fair enough.
For example, Joe Exotic commented on the post, and while he did wish Kai a happy birthday, he was clearly hoping to get her dad’s attention for another reason. “Happy birthday now time to #FreeJoeExotic,” he wrote.
Others mentioned Jeffrey Epstein. “Release the files! Other families deserve it,” one critic commented on the post. And, unsurprisingly, a few people also focused on the state of the economy.
Lately, when members of the Trump family have posted about having fun, it’s sparked a lot of backlash.
The celebratory posts from the Trump family have a certain “let them eat cake” energy when a lot of ordinary Americans are struggling. Recently, when Ivanka posted about the amazing night she had, most people who responded did not seem all that happy for her. Instead, they reminded her that people are struggling to afford groceries, housing, and gas while she enjoys attending lavish events in luxurious outfits.
Based on the photos Don Jr. and Kai shared, Kai’s birthday celebration didn’t look super over-the-top, but it still rubbed some people the wrong way. “Have fun,” one person commented on the birthday post. “Most families struggle to put food on the table.”
