Princess Charlotte Arrives At Her First Day Of School At Thomas’s Battersea With Prince George

Princess Charlotte is off to her first day of school!

The 4-year-old princess is joining her big brother, Prince George, at Thomas's Battersea in London. The royal students looked simply adorable in their uniforms as Prince William and Kate Middleton dropped them off to begin a new school year. Princess Charlotte wore her Amaia Mary Janes with the uniform, and her hair was tied back. On her backpack was a sweet sequined unicorn keychain.

Charlotte held Kate's hands tightly with both of her own before relaxing her grip as they crossed the schoolyard. Prince George was playing it cool as he held William's hand. He first began attending Thomas's Battersea two years ago.

The Cambridges were greeted by the head of the lower school, Helen Haslem. After everyone shook hands, Charlotte gave the cameras a quick wave before they headed inside. Charlotte looked like she was quite excited to begin the new school year.

Princess Charlotte is officially a student at Thomas's Battersea! The 4-year-old is joining older brother Prince George at the school this year after attending Willcocks Nursery School for the past year and a half.

Charlotte has been looking forward to the moment for some time. She's always looked up to her big brother, and she was thrilled to finally go to school with him. A source close to the Cambridges recently told People, "She can’t wait to be with George at big school. She is so excited about it all."

Charlotte and George arrived with Prince William and Kate Middleton at about 8:20 a.m. Charlotte excitedly held Kate's hand with both of her own before relaxing her grip as they crossed the schoolyard. George also held William's hand.

Both Charlotte and George wore the school's navy and red uniforms. Charlotte finished her outfit with Amaia Mary Jane shoes. She had her hair tied back in a ponytail and added an adorable accessory to her backpack — a sequined unicorn.

The Cambridges were greeted at the door by the head of the lower school, Helen Haslem. She shook hands with George before turning her attention to Charlotte, Kate, and William. As they headed inside, Charlotte gave photographers a small wave.

Once inside, William and Kate planned to get Charlotte settled into her new surroundings. Charlotte is in one of the three reception classes at the lower school. She will be in a classroom with 21 other students. She's very friendly, so she'll undoubtedly become friends with many of the other students.

The moment was surely extra-special for Kate. The Duchess of Cambridge was forced to miss Prince George's first day of school in 2017 due to the extreme morning sickness she experienced while pregnant with Prince Louis.

Charlotte will have an exciting reception year. According to the school's website, the princess will "play and explore; make choices and learn to have a go and persevere; be creative and solve problems; form good relationships; be safe, secure and happy."

The private school houses approximately 560 students between the ages of 4 and 13. It's split into lower, middle, and upper schools. The London private school costs $23,000 per year to attend, but parents feel it's a worthwhile investment in their children's futures.

Charlotte will be learning quite a bit this year. She will be introduced to French, computing, art, drama, and ballet aside from the fundamentals.

The seven areas of development that the school focuses on are: personal, social, and emotional development; communication and language; physical development; literacy; mathematics; understanding the world; and expressive arts and design.

George is also sure to have an exciting year ahead of him. The 6-year-old is starting Year 2 and will be tackling core subjects, like math, English, science, history, and geography. He will also receive religious studies and continue his education in French, computing, art/design technology, music, drama, physical education, and ballet.

"The curriculum presented in Year 2 reflects the increased ability of the children, both academically and socially," Helen Haslem explains on the school website. "It sees the completion of the basic skills in literacy and numeracy in Key Stage 1. Individual strengths and talents begin to emerge, which you will undoubtedly begin to see."

With George and Charlotte at school doing a lot of learning, Kate will have some spare time on her hands. We have a feeling that Prince Louis will enjoy the precious one-on-one time with his parents while his brother and sister are off at school.

It's sure to be a year of excitement and discovery as George and Charlotte expand their minds and their worldviews. These precious first years of school establish excitement for learning, and it seems the young royals are totally ready for it.
