There are some proposals that take place in public settings that almost immediately make you cringe in embarrassment, because the whole thing just seems awkward and better off left for a private moment between two people.
Then there are the other kinds of marriage proposals when the entire heartwarming moment captured on social media just makes you smile — like this one featuring a student proposing to his college sweetheart at his graduation ceremony.
NowThis News shared a video clip of the big moment that took place at Central Michigan University in Mount Pleasant, Michigan, in December 2022.
According to Fox 2 Detroit, the young man who popped the question in front of a crowd of a few hundred fellow graduates and their loved ones was David Shoemaker.
David got down on one knee to propose to his longtime girlfriend, Ryann Swann, during the winter commencement ceremony. The couple graduated together in the spring, but David had returned to school to obtain a Master of Entrepreneurial Ventures for the winter ceremony.
The news outlet reports that the pair met in one of the college’s dorms while David was working the front desk. They dated throughout college, and both graduated from CMU with bachelor's degrees.
Right before the footage captured in this video, Fox 2 reports that CMU President Bob Davies asked David’s family to join him onstage for what was about to take place.
Just as Ryann is seen crying tears of joy and shaking her head yes, the crowd can be heard erupting in cheers for the newly engaged couple.
