A skirt flying up on a windy day is embarrassing for anyone, but if that were to happen to a member of the royal family, it'd be downright scandalous.
But if you think about it, such a travesty has never occurred. You've never seen the skirt of a duchess or princess or, God forbid, Queen Elizabeth herself fly up and reveal obscenely posh undergarments (we're assuming).
It's not the sort of thing you consider on a daily basis, but once you realize it, you can't not notice it. But how do they do it? It's not like the royals just completely avoid the wind.
It turns out that both Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle have a nifty little trick that helps them keep those skirts they're so fond of wearing stay down where they belong.
What's more, the Queen herself has a different move to solve the same dilemma! Find out the royal secret below.
If you haven't noticed, Meghan's a big fan of skirts.
While she'll rock the occasional pantsuit in public, it's not unusual for the women of the royal family to regularly appear in skirts and dresses.
And powerful though the royals might be, they can't control the weather.
Which means that rain or shine or wind, they'll be in skirts outdoors.
So how are they making sure their thighs stay covered? It's not just that they're hiding wardrobe malfunctions from the cameras; it's that they truly never have them!
Thanks to an etiquette expert, we now have the answer.
Myka Meier just revealed that the royal trick is — wait for it — static cling.
"Often they wear body suits and clothes that actually increase static so it’s much [harder] for something to fly up," explained the pro. "So you have an under garment that is almost like a body suit that is one tactic that is used."
Nifty, right?
The Queen also has a trick to keeping her skirts down, but it's nothing like the wardrobe hack of Meghan and Kate!
Her majesty has most of her wardrobe altered!
This secret's admittedly been out for a while now, but it turns out that the monarch uses curtain weights in her clothes to keep her skirts and dresses down.
According to a courtier in 2012, "I just pop a couple of weights into the hemline of her dresses and coats and it makes them hang beautifully. If there is a flap in the coat then I will sew in one on each side of the split to even it up."
It also helps that most of her wardrobe is relatively heavy, at least compared to the often lighter clothes of the duchesses.
When you're at the center of the fashion world, you can't afford to take any chances!
It does make you look at their outfits in a different way, doesn't it?
This static trick is apparently taught in finishing school. And presumably in Meghan's case, as a crash course when you marry into the royal family!
The Queen's trick, while a little more labor intensive, is undeniably just as effective. And we haven't even mentioned the most endearing part of using weights yet: The weights are really cheap!
The fabulously wealthy royal family spends around $2 on the weights. They're just like the rest of us!
