Reality stars Todd and Julie Chrisley have begun their years-long sentences in prison after being convicted on charges of tax evasion, fraud, and conspiracy to defraud the United States. While the pair will bear the brunt of their time behind bars, their imprisonment is impacting their children, too.
The Chrisleys' 25-year-old daughter, Savannah Chrisley, recently opened up about how she's adjusting to this new reality on her podcast Unlocked With Savannah Chrisley, and it sounds like she isn't doing well.
Savannah explained, "Last week was an extremely difficult week for my family as a whole and for each of us individually. We kind of had to say goodbye to my parents (for the) foreseeable future and that was really, really, really tough."
Savannah's explanation was added to the episode, which was recorded before her parents went to prison. As she put it, "The podcast that’s going to be airing today that you’re watching was filmed prior to my life falling apart. So it may seem happy-go-lucky and during that time I think it’s because there was a lot of hope that was had and I wasn’t faced with the reality of the situation."
Savannah also revealed that she will soon dive more deeply into her feelings, as well as those of her brother and her niece. She added, "Next week, I will have a very intense one-on-one podcast with myself, kind of giving an update on where my life's at, where things stand."
Savannah's parents are in prison in two different states. Todd is serving his sentence in Florida, while Julie is imprisoned in Kentucky. The pair will each be required to serve an additional 16 months of probation upon their respective releases.
Ahead of his imprisonment, Todd Chrisley told listeners of the Chrisley Confessions podcast that he remained hopeful about his future. As he said, "I know that this may be my future for a minute, but I also have faith that the judicial system is going to turn it around. I also have faith that the appellate court is going to see this for what it is."
