August is often a rough month for kids. While they know they still have a few weeks of summer vacation left, it's the time when stores remind them that school is just around the corner.
It's never too early to prepare for back-to-school season. And there's a good chance you'll be perusing the school supplies on multiple trips. When it comes to school supplies, you'll always be tempted to stock up — regardless of the fact that a lot of these materials are available year-round.
Shopping for school supplies is always a nostalgic trip down memory lane for parents, as well. It seems like only yesterday our carts were filled with Lisa Frank-themed binders and erasers. Buying school supplies gives some of us a rush. It's a push to be creative — and something that shouldn't be ignored.
That said, here are a few supplies that both you and your children will need this year.
1. Crayola Kids Color Choice Short Color Pencil Set
Everyone should have at least one box of colored pencils in the house. Not only are they great for schoolwork — especially if your younger children want to bring life to school reports and assignments — but they're also great for adults. Coloring books and coloring pages are a wonderful way to de-stress. And there's just something so enjoyable about a fresh new box of coloring supplies. When it comes to bright and vibrant colors, nobody can beat Crayola.
2. Personalized Tough Phone Case
Is your child old enough to have a cellphone? Then your child is old enough to drop a cellphone. Phones can go through a lot of potentially damaging situations, since they serve as our lifelines. It may be time that you add "supportive phone case" to your school shopping list.
3. Electric Pencil Sharpener
Pencil sharpeners never used to be this cool. Having spare pencil sharpeners around the house is a great thing for any parent. Not only can you use it to sharpen your No. 2's, but it's also great to have around the house if you happen to use eyeliner or eyebrow pencils that require a fresh point.
To be honest, one of these would look pretty fantastic on your work desk, and it may bring you a little bit of added joy.
4. Durable View 3-Ring Binders
When I was a kid, I used about four binders per semester. They helped keep me organized and were great to study from. As an adult, things have been a bit binder-free, which is a shame. Binders aren't just a way to store loose-leaf paper. You can create a binder right now for home projects and future dreams or even as a way to keep better track of big work ventures. Now's a great time for everyone to stock up.
5. Crayola Take Note! Erasable Highlighters
Erasable highlighters are a great way to take notes. Highlighting important material is very important when it comes to studying, as your older children may know. But these highlighters aren't just for students. They're also for working moms who want to remember key notes for their book club without ruining the pages, and dads who want to make sure they don't forget a big appointment.
6. Post-it Pop-Up Note Dispenser
This cute Post-it holder is great for your middle schooler or high schooler to pop in the top shelf of their locker. They can leave notes for the end of the day, or just jot down some thoughts between classes. But it's only fair that you buy yourself one for your work desk, as well. It's ideal for any cat fan, or Post-it lover.
7. Convertible Vegan Leather Tote and Backpack
Looking for a stylish and functional way to carry books around? This tote from Uncommon Goods is absolutely stunning and sure to fetch plenty of compliments. Perfect for high schoolers, college kids, or busy moms with a lot of important stuff to carry to work. You can very easily pop a laptop in here.
8. Pilot G-2 Retractable Gel Pens
Are we all in agreement that the Pilot G-2 gel pens are the absolute best? They don't smudge very often and are pretty bold. Having pens in the house is very important, so don't hesitate when it comes to buying a box or two. Throw a few pens in your purse, and you'll be happy to have them on hand when you quickly need to jot something down (or write a check).
9. Upcycled Floppy Disc Notepads
Ever wonder what happened to the floppy discs of the past? Turns out, many of them were upcycled to make fun little notepads that everyone can enjoy. These are great to throw in your purse or leave by your phone at work to take notes, and they'll be a nostalgic surprise every time. Your kids can also bring them into school for note-taking and have the pads be an automatic conversation starter. Each order contains three, and each pad is a little different, since the discs once had a legitimate purpose.
10. Crayola Construction Paper (480-count)
There's something quite lovely about opening up a new package of construction paper. For kids, it's excellent for projects. But for adults, it's also a fun way to be creative. Having construction paper readily available in the house is an overall good call. Who knows what kind of masterpiece you can put together?
