Serena Williams Explains Why She’s Waiting Before Offering Parenting Advice To BFF Meghan Markle

Being a new parent isn't easy for anyone. It could be your first child or your fifth, but every situation is different. Every family has to make different adjustments as they grow. There's certainly no manual for how it's done. Many people lean on the ones close to them for advice, support, and guidance while figuring it out. Serena Williams recently revealed that while she'll always be there for buddy Meghan Markle, she's not offering her parenting advice just yet.

Serena recently sat down with BBC Breakfast ahead of her participation in Wimbledon. When her friendship with the Duchess of Sussex came up, Serena was asked about what kind of advice she's been offering the new mom. Meghan gave birth to son Archie just seven weeks ago. Serena is the mom of daughter Olympia, who will turn 2 in September. Serena explained that she hasn't given Meghan any parenting advice yet. She also explained why she thinks she'll hold off on doing that for a while longer.

Serena Williams is just about two years into being a parent, but she's already proven to be a very powerful and impactful mother. Serena gave birth to daughter Alexis Olympia Ohanian Jr. on September 1, 2017, in a delivery that nearly cost the tennis star her life.

Serena and her husband, Alexis, share a lot of their parenting moments online. Both of them are very open about their hopes and aspirations for their daughter and the world she'll grow up in. They even managed to make Olympia's favorite doll a viral sensation.

Serena spoke about parenting in a recent sit-down with BBC Breakfast ahead of Wimbledon. "Becoming a mom has changed my perspective on a lot of things," Serena explained. It's clear to her fans, who have noticed her evolution in the last two years.

“It also has changed me in terms of, I want to leave a legacy, I want to be this positive person for my daughter. Everything I do I want to do it for my daughter, and I’ve never obviously had that motivation before,” Serena added.

While Serena is in the UK for Wimbleton, her relationship with the Duchess of Sussex has become a topic of conversation. The two met in 2010 at a Super Bowl party. The Super Bowl brought them together again in 2014 when they played in a flag football match at DirectTV’s Celebrity Beach Bowl.

Serena and Meghan have been close ever since. Serena was there when Harry and Meghan exchanged vows last May. She even cohosted Meghan's New York City baby shower at the Mark Hotel in February.

Serena's been a little busy lately, so she probably hasn't made it over to Frogmore Cottage to meet baby Archie. Surely, she's still staying in touch with Meghan as the duchess goes through the first few weeks of motherhood.

When asked if she offered the Duchess of Sussex any advice on parenting, Serena revealed that she had not. She explained, "I never pass on words of wisdom, because I feel like everyone when they have a kid, especially when you've just had a baby, it's so difficult to just be."

Serena feels like the early days are best spent figuring it out for yourself and your family. When some time has passed, she'll be happy to share advice with her dear friend. "It's just like get through the first three months and then four months and then we can talk," she added.

Serena has a busy week ahead at Wimbledon. "I feel good now; it's been a rough time for me this year, but I'm finally at a place where I'm like 'oh my God, I'm not in pain, let's do this,' so this is a good place for me to be at," she explained.

Meghan went to cheer on Serena at Wimbledon while she played. Meghan also went to Wimbledon last year; she and her sister-in-law, Kate Middleton, watched Serena play.

News recently came forward that Meghan and Harry would be christening Archie Harrison this weekend. The event will take place July 6 at the Queen's private chapel at Windsor Chapel with close family and friends.

With Serena conveniently in town, many are chattering about the possibility that Harry and Meghan have chosen her to be one of Archie's godparents. Her name, along with those of George and Amal Clooney, has been thrown around before.

It's a big week for strong moms in London. Congratulations and good luck to Serena as she chases her 24th Grand Slam title. Congrats to Meghan and Harry on their special milestone with their first-born child!
