There's officially a tiny tennis powerhouse in the making!
Serena Williams has long teased the possibility that 3-year-old daughter Alexis Olympia might follow in her footsteps. Now the little girl is doing just that.
Serena took to her Instagram stories, proud to announce she'd officially attained "tennis mom" status. Instead of teaching the little one on her own, she signed her up for lessons to get started. Serena herself has been playing since she was 4, so it only makes sense she'd get Olympia started early.
We were lucky enough to get a sneak peek at what the mother-daughter duo would look like on the court together earlier this summer. Serena shared a picture of her and Olympia in matching tennis outfits after a day of fun together.
It's wonderful to see that the sport that's enriched Serena's life so much is something she can share with her little girl. Whether or not Olympia ends up going pro, it's a beautiful way for mom and daughter to bond.
Serena Williams is passing her passion on to her daughter. On Friday, the tennis superstar shared an exciting milestone for her 3-year-old daughter, Alexis Olympia. She took little Olympia to her very first tennis lesson.
"I signed Olympia up for tennis lessons," Serena revealed on her Instagram stories. Of course, she knew commenters were going to ask why she wasn't teaching the little girl herself.
"Don't even start with me because I'm not giving her tennis lessons. I signed her up for some."
Giving tennis instructions to a legend's child feels like an honor in itself, but Olympia's teacher wasn't aware.
"But the lady has no idea that it's my daughter, so we'll see how that goes," Serena said with a smile.
"I'm not a pushy mom, but I know how I like techniques, I want to make sure she's good at teaching Olympia some techniques."
The 39-year-old champion was armed with everything Olympia would need for her lesson.
"Look, Olympia got a cute racket like mine," she shared, showing off the tiny racket. She also gave a quick shout-out to Olympia's best friend/the internet's favorite doll, Qai Qai.
She shared another video of her and Olympia "reviewing some film" before her first lesson. It's so sweet to see how intently she watches the video while mama talks technique.
"See that open stance there? Look at the speed. Be fast," Serena said.
Later, she showed what the toddler's choice to watch was.
"This is the film that she wanted to watch … that baby not playing tennis, Olympia," she joked.
When it came time for the lesson, Serena showed off her and Olympia's fashion selections.

Olympia wore a black-and-white Nike tennis outfit. She looked simply adorable in the matching long-sleeve/skirt combo.
Serena opted for a teal maxi skirt and pink mesh top. "Tennis mom outfit," she captioned the image.
Serena was excited for Olympia to get on the court, but she decided not to linger. She shared another post after she dropped her off.
"I know how to leave and be. I'm not like an overprotective mom, no matter what Alexis says," she laughed.
It wasn't Olympia's first time on a court, however. Aside from often being there cheering on her mama in her biggest moments, Olympia spent some time with Serena over the summer. The mother and daughter wore matching purple tennis outfits and looked fierce.
Olympia is very young, so it's hard to say where her own journey with tennis will take her. Still, it's wonderful to see her playing the family's favorite sport. Bonding with your mom over what she loves is a special part of the mother-daughter relationship, and it's playing out beautifully in the Williams-Ohanian home.
Then again, it could be the beginning of another story of greatness. Serena herself was just 4 when she began to play. Through her sport, she has inspired an entire generation of women and surely more to come.
