The adult child of Kody and Meri Brown from the hit TLC show Sister Wives is opening up about their life.
Leon Brown, the only child of Kody and Meri, has come out as queer and transgender. The 26-year-old made the reveal via Instagram.
"Someone recently told me that i didn't have to have all of my [expletive] figured out in order for me to share myself with the world." They continued, "So here's me, definitely not having almost any of my [expletive] figured out, to let you know that I am trans. My name is Leon or Leo (I love both) and my pronouns are they/them."
Leon continued, "I remember the first time that I knew I wasn’t a girl. I was pretty young & unfortunately I grew up in a context that was incredibly gendered & restrictive." Leon is, of course, referring to the polygamist community they were brought up in, as is highlighted on the reality show.
"So I continued to be socialized as a girl & later a woman. And here's the thing, I'm finally ready to share my favorite self with the world. And that self is incredibly genderqueer, trans, and unapologetic."
Leon also shared that they like who they are, saying "being queer & trans are definitely some of my favorite parts of myself." They said they have learned "so many things" about themself in the process of that discovery.
"Here's to me getting to know myself, share myself, and continually evolve to be the person I am, to be my favorite self in all contexts," Leon concluded.
Leon also shared that using their "correct" name is incredibly important. They added that anyone who refuses to do so doesn't "need to speak to or about me."
Meri is clearly set on supporting her child's truth. She shared Leon's story on Instagram, as well, and added the message: "You are my sunshine."
Leon's half sister, Ysabel, who is the daughter of Kody and Christine, offered support, too. She wrote: "proud of you for being true to yourself! that’s a beautiful thing and very inspiring for many."
