Middle Schooler With Down Syndrome Jumps For Joy When She Learns She Made The Cheerleading Team

Every student entering a new year of school has a certain amount of expectations, hopes, and dreams. Many kids worry about wearing the latest trends, or finding new friends. Other hope to make it on sports teams and become school-wide stars.

Others, like this middle schooler, have more humble ambitions.

Lacey Parker was just about to enter North DeSoto Middle School when her mother, Renee Parker, received a note: Lacey had made the cheer team!

The 10-year-old, who has Down syndrome, only tried out with the encouragement of the school's principal and cheer coach. After all, she has come a long way, since birth: When she was born, doctors didn't expect her to live more than a few days.

10 years later, she's exceeding all expectations!

One of her sisters caught the heartwarming moment on camera, which has garnered many positive comments supporting Lacey. Despite needing to be coaxed into trying out, the young girl says that she loves cheerleading, and that she wanted to be part of the team ever since her older sister had made it on, too!

Now watch the clip to see the little girl's excitement when she hears the good news. It's bound to be a great year for her!

Please SHARE to show Lacey your support, and if you think all kids with developmental and intellectual disabilities should be given the same chance to prove themselves!
