Teachers are incredible forces of nature who put up with a lot from students, parents, and administration for little monetary return, all because they believe in cultivating the potential of young minds.
Fortunately, people are beginning to recognize just how much their teachers do for them — like these students who surprised the teacher who impacted them the most or these who payed it forward by giving their teacher an ambush makeover!
Then there's Gina Christopherson, a music teacher who went above and beyond a student's wildest dreams.
"I was lagging behind," Ethan Och, a high school student with muscular dystrophy, said after quitting band. "And they were going ahead and there was no way for me to catch up with them."
Och, who played percussion in the school band, tried his best. He switched from wooden drumsticks to lighter aluminum ones. And when those got too heavy, he attached them to his wrists with Velcro. However, even with these adjustments, he couldn't keep up with the high school band.
But Christopherson wasn't going to let an issue out of her student's control stop him.
"He's part of the team, you don't leave somebody behind," she said.
