Conjoined twins occur in one of every 200,000 births.
Tinashe and Tinotenda were born connected at the stomach. But they were also born in a very poor area of Zimbabwe.
Luckily, Canadian doctors were able to bring the twin boys to Toronto's Hospital for Sick Children to figure out how to separate them.
When twins are born conjoined, 60 percent are stillborn and most do not make it past the next day. The survival rate for conjoined twins is 5 to 25 percent.
But Tenashe and Tinotenda didn't just last a day. The twin boys are living in Zimbabwe and are now 12 years old!
Looking at them, you'd never know these boys were given such a minimal chance of surviving. They live their lives like normal boys and are very happy now!
If you are happy to see conjoined twins separated and thriving after surgery, you'll also enjoy this video about two sisters being separated after 3 months of being conjoined at the stomach.

Tenashe and Tinotenda were born in Zimbabwe, connect together by their stomach. Their chance dying was 75%, but given that they lived in one of the poorest countries in the world, their chances were even slimmer.

The twins first arrived at The Hospital for Sick Children, but doctors took their time to make sure they separated them safely. The boys underwent surgery in March of 2005 and thankfully it was successful!

They'd also been born with cleft palettes and received surgery in May and June of 2005. It wasn't until later in June, on their 1st birthday June 20, that they returned home to Zimbabwe.

The doctors who saved them traveled to Zimbabwe to see how they were doing and were stunned to see such vibrant and active young men. It is incredible to see a miracle like this!
