She’s Preparing Food, But Refuses To Eat It. The Reason Will Astound You.

It began with a simple homework assignment, but what it became was so much greater. When she was in the third grade, Katie Stagliano's teacher asked the students to try and grow a cabbage from a single seedling; Katie's grew to a whopping 40 pounds. She took the cabbage to the local soup kitchen, where it was served with ham and rice. She was able to help feed 275 people, and she fell in love with sthe happy faces on those she fed.

It's now six years later, and "Katie’s Krops" — which she established all on her own by gathering up her friends and the head chef at her school — supports 75 youth-run gardens in 27 states and has raised over $200,000.

Katie believes if other kids experienced gardening more, they'd not only enjoy it, but they'd also appreciate how many people they can help. Katie is already such an inspiration, and I can't even begin to imagine how many more lives she'll touch in her lifetime.
