Eloise Pugh had been home from the hospital for just a few days when she lost her appetite and stopped eating properly. The baby girl began losing weight, and a midwife confirmed to mother Sarah Pugh that this was definitely cause for alarm.

Test results revealed that Eloise had contracted the herpes simplex virus.
Herpes simplex is manageable for adults, but when a baby is infected, it can spread directly to the brain. If this happens, herpes can be fatal.
According to Obstetrician Dr. Gino Pecoraro, “This is one of those many occasions where prevention really is the only cure.”
How did Eloise end up with this condition? According to her doctors, Eloise likely contracted herpes when a visitor with a cold sore gave her a loving kiss.
Eloise was airlifted to Brisbane, Australia. She was hooked up to machines to help her breathe, but it was already too late. Tragically, Eloise developed a staph infection.
At just 24 days old, Eloise died in her mommy's arms.
Since Eloise's untimely death, grieving mother Sarah Pugh has been speaking out about the risks of newborns contracting the herpes simplex virus.
"I couldn't let another family go through the heartache that we went through," Sarah told Yahoo in an interview.
