Today's technology has totally revolutionized childbirth. Not too long ago, women gave birth in their own homes, unmedicated, and without any knowledge of the genders or conditions of their soon-to-be bundles of joy. Nowadays, with ultrasound technology, just about any questions or fears can be addressed months before babies leave their wombs! It's truly remarkable — and, in some cases, downright amazing!
Meet Paul and Cheryl, a young couple from Greater Manchester, England expecting their second child together. During a routine 20-week ultrasound scan, these parents were experiencing the usual excitements and concerns: Is our baby healthy? Is its heartbeat strong? Will it be a boy or girl?
They definitely weren't expecting the results they received.
I was stunned when I saw the ultrasound image! What an adorable and hilarious memory that this family is sure to always cherish.

As the midwife scanned Cheryl's tummy for a routine checkup, the soon-to-be-parents hoped for a nice image they could frame and send out to family. But they were discouraged by the unclear images they were getting. The baby kept burrowing its head and moving back and forth, seemingly avoiding the ultrasound's eye. Then, suddenly, a crystal clear image unlike any the midwife had ever seen…
Their baby — a healthy boy, as they learned — gave his anxious family a thumbs-up!
His mother says, "We all burst into laughter. The midwife said she had seen a few hand gestures in her time, but nothing as clear and forthright as this. It brought a great deal of happiness to our day."
"It's a prized memento. He must be having fun in there to be giving us the thumbs-up!"
