Tori Spelling and Dean McDermott have had a very interesting relationship throughout the years. While they've openly navigated a few rocky patches, the parents of five kids (six, if you count Dean's first son with ex Mary Jo Eustace) have managed to make it through. However, Tori's been giving some hints that things aren't going the best these days.
While many families are under pressure after the chaos of the past year (especially those with five young kids at home), Tori has never seemed to shy away from telling it like it is. The two initially met on a film set back in 2005, but they had two big obstacles in the way. Both of them were already married.
"It was love at first sight. I fell so hard … Then I noticed he had a wedding ring," Tori admitted in one of her books, per Us Weekly. But that didn't necessarily stop the two from exploring their feelings.
"When someone asked, he pulled out photos of his children. And — oh, yeah — I had a husband too," Tori's book detailed. "It was fun to flirt, but I knew nothing would happen… But: Dean and I went to a bar after dinner. And we spent the night at the Cartier Place. The following day when I woke up next to Dean, I had no regrets." Surely that was a paragraph their former spouses weren't too happy to read.
"Something was really wrong with my marriage," Tori continued. "Not only because I slept with this guy — though that certainly wasn’t a positive sign — but because I didn’t regret it." Months later, the two left their spouses and eloped. While it sounds like quite the "how we met" story, they've definitely had some rocky years.
Their son Liam was born in March 2007. Daughters Stella and Hattie were born soon after. Soon after welcoming their fourth child and second son, Finn, it was reported that Dean had been unfaithful to Tori. In 2013, headlines broke that Dean had had an affair with a younger woman named Emily Goodhand. But that wasn't the only rough patch for the two.
Dean seemed to get back into Tori's good graces after his cheating scandal by proposing once again, and the two had a fifth child in October 2016. This was a bit unexpected for fans, especially because Tori'd had complications delivering her fourth. When baby Beau was born, Tori told publications that his arrival helped celebrate the "rebirth" of her relationship with Dean.
The recent rumors started last year, when Tori revealed her family's Christmas card. Dean didn't seem to make the cut. "In our family the holidays officially kick off when we make our holiday card," Tori wrote in the caption. So it's even stranger that they couldn't find a time when Dean could join the photo shoot.
She did, however, represent her husband by holding up his picture. It counts, but it's a little strange. The whole image was technically an ad for Simply To Impress cards, but it was still shocking to some fans. "Although Dean is away for work, we did our best to incorporate him," Tori stated.
In March 2021, many fans also noticed that Tori started going out without her wedding band on. Having been born into an entertainment family, Tori very much knows the chaos a move like that would cause when it came to rumors over their marriage. She also failed to acknowledge their anniversary, as did Dean.
They also didn't seem to acknowledge either Mother's Day or Father's Day to each other, which seems unusual for two celebrities who once had a reality show about their love. On Jeff Lewis' SiriusXM show, Tori was asked about the state of their marriage — and she had somewhat of a canned response. She said that Dean was finally home from filming but that the two were sleeping in separate beds.
Tori made it seem as if it was a space issue. Supposedly, while Dean was gone, the kids and pets all made a beeline to her bed to sleep. It makes sense, but it also must feel a little lonely for the couple, who just had to handle a long-distance relationship.
A lot of insiders are reporting that the two of them are very close to splitting up for good. "Tori and Dean have been having major issues for over a year now," one source told Us Weekly. "The fact that she’s talking about sleeping in separate beds is very telling, she wouldn't do that unless things were really not great between them." People believe that Tori knows her words will eventually be seen by her kids, so she reportedly doesn't talk about issues often.
While only Tori and Dean know for sure, it'll always be hard to be away from family for so long. Tori reportedly had to adjust to Dean filming for six months, which is a long span of time — especially for someone who already has a checkered past when it comes to cheating while on set away from home. For the sake of the kids, hopefully these two can either finalize a divorce or seek out some help once again to repair the marriage.
