Juanita Marquez was a 34-year-old Denver woman with stage 4 cervical cancer. In May 2018, doctors said the cancer had spread throughout her body, and the prognosis was uncertain.
Juanita was also a single mother to three young children at the time: 12-year-old Nathaniel and 8-year-old twin girls, Jasmine and Joslyn. Every night, the children pray for a miracle on behalf of their brave, beloved mother.
Knowing the 2019 holiday season could potentially be their last one together for the Marquez family, the staff at UCHealth University of Colorado Hospital wanted to make it extra special and memorable. They all chipped in for a package of gifts for Juanita's kids.
But that package of gifts was stolen off the porch of the nurse who was organizing the gift giving. When the single mom learned what happened, she reacted with kindness and compassion; that's just the type of person she is. "That's all we can do is pray for them and just hope they can get out of that darkness," she said.
Thankfully, the package was returned later that night — but the Fox31 Problem Solvers were determined to do whatever they could to give her family a little Christmas boost.
