A man accused a woman of "catfishing" him because she wore makeup to cover her acne, and people are flabbergasted at his nerve.
Catfishing is a term that originated in 2010. It refers to when people use fake photos to lure someone into an online relationship. It's a sneaky, dishonest trick to pull.
A 20-year-old woman posted on Reddit, distraught after a man accused her of this trick. She'd been on about six dates with the man, another 20-year-old. Then he invited her to go backpacking with some mutual friends, and she went without makeup for the first time.
Seeing that she in fact had some acne, the guy concluded that he'd been tricked.

"When we got home, he said that it would be for the best to stop seeing each other because he doesn't like me anymore," she recalled in the since-deleted post, according to Insider. "As the very last thing he said that I shouldn't lead people on like that."
The post has racked up nearly 2,000 comments, and people are almost unanimously on the woman's side.

A 20-year-old woman anonymously posted a question on Reddit on Tuesday.
She explained that she'd been accused of "catfishing" a guy, also 20, whom she'd been seeing for a short while.
The woman had gone on six dates with the man when they decided to go backpacking with some mutual friends. That was the first time that he saw her without makeup.
"At first, he didn't say anything, just looked at me a bit weird," she wrote in her since-deleted post.
"When we were alone, he just told me that he didn't know I had acne like that. After that, he's been acting distant the whole trip."
Sadly, things went downhill from there. The man actually broke things off with this woman just because she'd worn makeup that covered up her acne.
"When we got home that night, he said that it would be for the best to stop seeing each other because he doesn't like me anymore," the woman said. "As the very last thing he said that I shouldn't lead people on like that."
The woman acknowledged that she likely dodged a bullet by losing this guy. However, she said it still "haunts me that he thinks I'm catfishing people."
"I wear makeup because I'm not the biggest fan of my acne and because it makes me feel a bit more confident," she explained.
The woman posted photos of herself with and without makeup, so Reddit users could decide for themselves if she'd been overly deceptive.
Their opinions were almost unanimous: She did NOT catfish this dude.
People agreed with the woman, who asserted that she doesn't think there's a "dramatic difference" between her appearance with makeup and without it.
Many pointed out that, even with makeup on, you can tell that she has some acne bumps underneath… which is, by the way, so not a big deal.
And just to reiterate that this guy is an overdramatic jerk: The woman's acne wasn't even severe.
"That's the only thing I do to my face makeup-wise, so I don't look like a completely different person when I'm makeup-less," the woman added.
People validated the woman's decision to cover her acne, pointing out that it's OK to wear makeup for whatever reason that you want to — whether it's to cover up blemishes or just to change up your look.
Many women chimed in to assert that men can be seriously oblivious when it comes to makeup. They have unreal expectations about what's real or fake and can't seem to tell the difference half the time.
And most importantly, if this guy was a kind person and truly liked the woman for who she is, he would never dump her over a bit of acne.
Acne is common, and true love couldn't care less about it.
"In real relationships, a person could lose an eye and it would make no difference," one person shared.
It feels awful to be rejected like this. But ultimately, this woman is lucky for never having to see this man again. Hopefully, now she knows that beyond the shadow of a doubt.
