Joyce DeFauw, 90 years old, graduated from college on December 11, 2022, over 50 years after she originally dropped out to start a family. Joyce originally began college in 1951.
These days, she is a grandmother of 17 and great-grandmother of 24. Joyce told local news that her family is the reason she went back to school. She earned her bachelor's degree in general studies from Northern Illinois University decades after dropping out of school.
Joyce advises others, "Don't give up. Even if you do quit, go back. Just hang in there. Keep learning. Keep giving thanks. It's there for you. Just go for it."
