I have to admit, I have never had the impulse to steal anything before. Sure, there are plenty of opportunities for most people to get away with a five-finger discount, but even if we weren't afraid of the legal repercussions, most of us obey the unspoken social contract and never steal.
Of course, there are situations where I would make an exception — like if I found myself in a desperate position and needed to feed my family, like this mom just trying to do the right thing for her kids. But if it was just for personal gain? I would be so ashamed.
So when I stumbled across this video, I have to admit, I didn’t feel much sympathy. In the footage, captured by someone’s cell phone camera, a gang of criminals is trying to break into a Rolex store in broad daylight.
Not being the criminal masterminds that they thought they were, the robbers are quickly defeated by the store’s bulletproof glass and alarm system, and so they try to beat a hasty retreat on their mopeds. Then, an elderly lady appears from across the street; she’s the one in the red jacket and kerchief.
She promptly starts whacking at the would-be criminals with her handbag, knocking at least one of them clean off his bike. It’s like she saw their bad behavior, and her grandma instincts just kicked in! It’s like a scaled-up version of this fearless woman shooing a bear off of her porch! There’s no audio of this elderly lady and her thirst for justice, but I like to think that she was threatening to ground them the whole time.
