Altoids Tin Becomes A Sweet Lunchbox Addition With This Clever Transformation

Whether it's their first day at a new school or if they're moving up a grade, kids' first day back at school is definitely a cause for celebration.

They get to say goodbye to Mom and Dad for a little while, see old friends, make new ones, and prepare to learn a ton of new things over the course of the year.

Along with the perfect first day outfit and a backpack filled with required school supplies, many kids come to school with their first packed lunch of the new school year.

And by the time lunch rolls around, they will likely be overstimulated with new information and curriculum, and are ready to chow down on whatever is inside.

Now, imagine how fun it would be for them to find their own little tin with a surprise treat and a note from Mom and Dad wishing them luck on their big day!

A little treat holder is actually extremely simple to make, and kids will love being able to have a little space to store secrets, notes, and candy.

All you need is an Altoids tin and the instructions below to make a fun little treasure trove that is perfect for first-day-of-school discoveries.

Master crafter Maura started with an empty Altoids container, which most of us likely have floating around in our car or purse right now!

The tin was then cleaned and spray-painted a bright blue color.

Other fun alternatives to the spray paint would be chalkboard paint, fabric, or even stickers!

You can also use stripes of washi tape to add more color, patterns, and pizzazz.

Once the washi tape was added, an X-ACTO was used to cut away the excess and make a clean line on the side.

More tape, fabric, or paint can be used to cover the tin and completely conceal what it used to be, though, when upcycling, it is always fun to see little traces of what your creation once was!

A fun flower was also created using a flower loom and a beautiful button.

The tin is also perfect for keeping little notes for kids to find during lunchtime.

It can also hold lunch money, spare hair ties, or chewing gum to enjoy after class.

Also, candy is the perfect addition to any note. It adds a sweet touch to the already nice gesture!
