She Transforms A Dirty Cable Spool Into A Gorgeous Living Room Bar

When I walk down the street and spot a discarded pallet, tire, or a pile of cinder blocks I disregard it as junk. Yet, a special few see something completely different.

For instance, they will see a chopped-down tree and think, "Hey! I can transform that tree into a beautiful playground for my cats!"

The act of turning trash into treasure is more common than you would think. In fact, this popular DIY project concept even has a name: "upcycling." To upcycle, according to the dictionary, is to “reuse (discarded objects or material) in such a way as to create a product of a higher quality or value than the original.”

One Reddit user, pikapp336, did just this by turning an unwanted cable spool into something truly amazing. Not only is the concept of this upcycle idea novel, but the project is executed so well, that the end result is totally stunning! In fact, when I saw it I actually uttered aloud “I can’t believe he turned a cable spool into that!”

And I’m sure you’ll be saying the same thing as soon as you see it! It’s that cool…

To begin his craft, this DIYer first bought a big, unwanted cable spool online. He showed the size of the spool by having a friend stand next to it for scale.

He then disassembled the spool. “Didn't need the inside curved pieces so put them aside for future work,” he said.

Next, he laid out the parts and planned out the project.

After he drew all of the cuts in both the plywood and spool, he started cutting.

Next, he assembled a frame by screwing in the 2x4s from beneath the plywood.

Before he knew it, the frame was complete.

Then he wrapped the front with eucalyptus board.

Next, he took steel flashing to wrap around the bar.

Then he cut it to fit and secured the flashing with self-drilling screws, giving his project an industrial look.

Once this was done, it was time to mount the countertop.

He decided to add a fun final touch to the project.

He added some stain to a wheel on the spool, added some shelves to it, and then hung it behind his masterpiece.

The end result is a gorgeous living room bar complete with a wheel spool backsplash with plenty of steel shelves for storage.

The beautiful bar can also double as a card table.
