Cable Spool Is Cleverly Transformed Into A Pretty Painted Table

While cable spools are most commonly only seen at construction sites, their sturdy, circular, and symmetrical design makes them a great potential DIY resource!

The particularly large spools, like the one that DIY-er Aaron managed to track down and buy online, have a cool industrial look like this tire-rimmed home grill.

And, with a little polish, paint, and some rope, he was able to turn it into a stunning table with a custom-stenciled design.

This beautiful furniture piece would look perfect in or outside the house and strikes the perfect balance between stunning and sturdy.

Check out below to see how he used his many crafting techniques to beautify this otherwise boring object.

Who knows, at the end you may be itching to track down your own huge coil to paint and polish!

First, Aaron acquired an industrial-size cable spool from a building site.

He envisioned making a beautiful sturdy table out it, but it would take some work!

First, he trimmed the bottom of the spool so that chairs would be able to fit within the grooves.

A rounded edge was cut using a handsaw, and a jigsaw finished the job.

He then quickly sanded it to make it more level while maintaining the rustic air.

A quick stain was also added to the top to give it its deep finish.

To add a bit of nautical flair, he curled braided rope down the base of the "table."

He started by drilling a hole into the top of the base, pushing in the rope, then knotting it so it wouldn't slip out.

Then he wrapped it "what seemed to be 3 million times"around the base until finishing it the same way on the bottom.

Next, a totally unique stencil was created using masked tape with the design sketched on top.

Then the parts that he wanted painted were cut out using a craft knife.

He applied a thick layer of multi-surface paint to the stencil as well as the bottom of the table.

He then tore away the tape to reveal the beautiful, bespoke design.

The final product is a truly creative and unique furniture piece that showcases different elements of its designer throughout.

All that was left to do was add some yacht varnish to make the wooden top glossy.
