As the daughter of an architect, I have spent a lot of time looking at unique and interesting houses. As a child, my parents were always pointing out column types, window structures, and more every time we passed buildings.
Because of that, I've seen a lot of incredible homes, but this one might take the cake.
In 1973, Ricardo Bofill found an abandoned, dilapidated cement factory outside of Barcelona, Spain. Although it was rundown, Ricardo saw something special in the cement factory.
Ricardo explains, "I found enormous silos, a tall smokestack, four kilometers of underground tunnels, and machine rooms in good shape."
Ricardo knew he could turn the cement factory into something more — his own home. As soon as he saw the factory's rooms, Ricardo had a vision.
"I already imagined future spaces and noticed that the different aesthetic and plastic tendencies that had developed since World War I were present in this factory," he explained.
Instead of leaving the cement factory and just dreaming about its potential forever, Ricardo bought the cement factory and got to work.

After Ricardo Bofill came across a worn-down cement factory in 1973, he decided to turn it into his home.
He named it la fábrica and got to work transforming it into a livable house.
The factory is World War I era, but it closed down years ago.
When Ricardo purchased the factory, it was completely dilapidated. Ricardo had to do a lot of repairs before he could start renovating the factory into his home.
Now it's been almost 45 years since Ricardo first came across the cement factory, and it looks completely stunning now.
If you think the outside looks gorgeous, just wait until you see the inside.
In addition to refurbishing the factory itself, Ricardo added lush greenery outside.
Because the cement factory looks so industrial, the vegetation makes the factory look much more livable and beautiful.
The property is now completely stunning. The industrial chimneys that used to produce smoke are now covered in lush gardens.
Ricardo's vision was not only creative, but very eco-friendly. And the interior is just as gorgeous as the exterior.
In the photo above, you can see one of the property's meeting rooms.
The huge windows allow enormous amounts of light into the room, which feels airy and beautiful inside.
I would definitely be able to get a lot of good work done in this stunning meeting room.
This stunning living room is just one of the many gorgeous home spaces in the refurbished cement factory.
With modern finishings and perfectly redone interiors, anyone would be lucky to live here.
In addition to his home spaces, Ricardo also works out of the incredible cement factory.
Take a look at this stunning office space, set inside one of the cylindrical chimneys.
Have you ever seen a house like this before? I definitely haven't, but I would love to visit it in person.
The meeting rooms, home areas, and exterior are all so stunning.
