With a few more weeks left of summer until school is back in session, it might feel like you've run out of new activities to try with your kids or grandkids. But don't fret. There's still fun ways to keep them busy with all sorts of fun painting ideas.
Of course, painting can be messy, so why not take it outside while you still can?
There are ways to keep your little artists busy and let them be creative at the same time. And when they're all finished, you'll be able to proudly display their works of art in your home.
Keepsake crafts are my absolute favorite kind of crafts, and they are priceless! There are several cute ideas I recently stumbled upon that I just had to try out — and they really turned out so much cuter than I'd imagined. And the kids had a blast getting to paint and be a little messy. (Just be sure they're wearing clothes you don't mind getting dirty!) The kids will need some adult supervision, depending on their age, so use your own discretion.
The first painting is a cute sunshine. I painted the main sun center on the canvas, then let the kids create the sun's rays by using their handprints. We brushed yellow and orange paint on their hands and let them make the prints. In no time, the painting was complete. In less than an hour, it was dry and ready to hang.
The other paintings include a cute fingerprint dandelion, which gets everyone involved. It's such a fun project to do with kids — all while creating lasting memories with them.
Gather your supplies:
- Blank painting canvas
- Craft paints (in various colors)
- Paintbrushes
– Color markers - Optional: picture frames
"You Are My Sunshine" Handprint Craft 1. Trace a paper plate to create a circle, which will be the sun's center.
2. Paint the circle orange and yellow.
3. Brush orange paint on palms and yellow paint on fingers.
Push hand down around the circle to create the sun's rays.
4. Continue around until you've completed it.
Optional: Feel free to write "You Are My Sunshine" on the canvas if you have room.
I left mine as is and really love how it turned out. Scroll to the bottom to see the final product.
Fingerprint Dandelion
1. Draw the root and stems with a marker.
2. Dip finger in paint and add one print to each stem.
Each kid had their own interpretation of the dandelion, so each painting has its own unique touch. I just love them all, and couldn't wait to hang them up!
When they're all finished, you can leave as is and hang — or even buy picture frames to bring stylish additions to your paintings and make sure they're protected.
I really enjoyed being able to hang these paintings up after we were done. And the kids couldn't be prouder of their artwork. Maybe I'm biased, but who knew something so easy could look so great? I also really love how there are different variations of the dandelions, which it makes it that much more fun.
