Man Buries A Large Bucket In His Backyard To Create A Gorgeous Disappearing Water Fountain

There is nothing quite like relaxing in your backyard.

When Instructables DIY-er DenVogel decided it was time he added a water feature to his yard, he didn't want to build just any old fountain.

He dreamed up a disappearing fountain design, reminiscent of a natural geyser. Water would spring up from a cluster of rocks, rather than pool into a grimey basin.

This design would allow his water feature to emit all the sounds and splashing of a normal fountain, without pooling into a haven for unwanted bugs and leaves.

Essentially, his design would provide all of the serenity of a fountain, and none of the annoying maintenance.

Thanks to his ingenuity, this DIY-er now gets to sit in his backyard and enjoy the calming sounds of running water serenely free-flowing in the distance.

Keep scrolling to learn how this DIY-er created his one-of-a-kind water feature, sure to impress every houseguest.

When Instructables user DenVogel started designing a new water feature for his backyard, he knew exactly what he didn't want.

He did not want a fountain that would require hours and hours of upkeep.

Additionally, he didn't want a ready-made-looking fountain.

He wanted a tranquil water feature that would leave his houseguests in awe.

So, he set out to build a disappearing fountain, shaped like a cluster of rocks, from which water would gloriously spring up, much like a natural geyser.

He began his project by digging a hole, with a little help from his adorable pup.

This DIY-er made sure to take the dirt down evenly, maintaining a level surface structure all around his fountain's perimeter.

He made a hole deep enough so the that fountain's underground basin lip would sit level with the ground.

Next, he dug a trench for the electrical wiring.

This DIY-er decided to run his power cable through an electrical conduit.

By wiring his fountain this way, he was able to hide the electrical work underground.

Additionally, if he ever needed to repair or replace the fountain's electrical system, he'd be able to easily pull the power cord out through the conduit — no digging required.

To further capitalize on this stress-free theme, this Instructables user built his fountain to be as easy to maintain as possible.

He connected the new fountain to his preexisting sprinkler system, allowing the basin to self-refill.

Electrical and plumbing all set, this DIY-er covered the dirt around his basin in sturdy landscape fabric.

The fabric would protect the fountain from weed growth, while still allowing water overflow to seep back into the earth.

Next, this DIY-er laid rebar and hardware cloth over the hole and basin.

This grid acted as a support structure for the 1,000 pounds of rock he was about to lay over top.

These Noiyo cobble stone rocks beautifully hid the interworkings of the fountain below.

They helped create the illusion that this fountain water was naturally springing up from the earth, for all to enjoy.

When this DIY-er decided his yard needed a new water feature, he built this out-of-the-box disappearing fountain — providing added tranquility without the additional upkeep.
