Adorable DIY Popsicle Stick Shelves Will Transform Your Home

Decorating your home can be extremely expensive. I recently moved into my first house, and although I'd love to cover my walls with $150 floating shelves, it's simply not in the budget. In addition to bargain hunting in stores, I've started looking into DIY projects to keep costs low.

While searching for shelving and wall art, I came across a fantastic DIY project from Jess Coppom, founder of the DIY site Make & Do Crew. The crafty DIY-er managed to create a gorgeous hexagon-shaped shelf out of the most basic of arts and crafts objects: popsicle sticks!

Her easy-to-follow, step-by-step instructions allow you to create an affordable, but high-end looking piece of three-dimensional art that is sure to turn heads.

Many DIY geometric-shaped shelf tutorials are overly complicated, but Coppom's downloadable template and clear instructions will allow you to make a transformative piece in no time!

Jess Coppom is an avid DIY-er and founder of the crafty website Make & Do Crew. She wanted a three-dimensional art piece for her bedroom gallery wall, to add some texture and warmth to the room.

Many of the tutorials she found online were complicated, or too pricey, so she came up with her own idea. With a template she created, she used the most classic craft supply out there to create her shelves: popsicle sticks!

After creating her template, Coppom began by layering popsicle sticks. She placed a spot of glue on each stick as she built upward.

"Getting all the angles even is what elevates the shelf from 3rd-grade art project, to West Elm–worthy home decor," Coppom told LittleThings.

She said to continue layering until you're satisfied with the height of your shelf. Coppom's finished product was about 16 sticks deep. After allowing your glue sticks to dry, it's time to use a stain of your own choosing. Be sure to stain in between each popsicle stick.

At this point, you can either choose to add a picture hanger to your shelf or simply put two nails in the wall to hold up your new creation!

The next step is simple: add any piece of home decor you'd like to display on your shelf, and you're done!

The coolest part about this project is that it can take any shape you'd like! Coppom has created an entire series of shelves in various shapes and sizes.
