Wooden Cooler Stand Makes Digging For Drinks So Much Easier

Why do we keep our coolers on the ground?

This was the question Instructables user tdrev82 pondered every time he found himself at a party, hunched over the cooler, uncomfortably rummaging through melted ice for his beverage of choice.

So, one day, instead of simply accepting his cooler's design for what it was, he began imagining all it could be. He devised a plan to create himself a new, elevated cooler box, decked out with all sorts of useful, cooler-related features.

He got to work, assembling a wooden structure to elevate his cooler higher above the ground — eliminating superfluous bending.

This DIY-er also decked out his new wooden cooler box with its own drainage spigot, a magnetic bottle opener, and a handy little shelf.

By trusting in his crafty skills, this builder fashioned himself an awesome stand that is sure to wow future party guests and tailgaters.

Now, his cooler is so much more than just a disregarded plastic ice chest hiding in a forgotten patio corner. It's a multifunctional statement piece, perfectly suited to his tastes and personality.

Recently, Instructables user tdrev82 decided his cooler situation was due for an upgrade.

He decided to build a wooden cooler stand, elevating his cooler off the ground, and decorated with all sorts of helpful party tools.

This savvy upcycler opted to repurpose a used cooler for his design to save on costs.

He found this one at a garage sale.

After unscrewing the cooler's hardware and flipping it upside down, this builder framed out his cooler box's wooden legs.

With the legs in position, this DIY-er began layering in wooden side slats.

Then, he flipped the structure over, and installed some wooden cross bracing underneath the cooler to hold it in place.

He also fashioned a little shelf on one of this cooler's sides.

This shelf would make for a great spot to serve yummy future snacks, or serve as great leverage for cracking open a nice, cold, game day beer.

With a slatted shelf at the base of its legs, all new hardware, and a magnetic bottle opener affixed to its front, this new cooler box was ready for its first tailgate.

This forward-thinking DIY-er also installed a spigot onto his new cooler box's side, to make draining its post-party melted ice a breeze.
