Moving into a new house is a little bit like a treasure hunt.
After all, the home might be new to you, but that doesn't mean that the previous owners haven't left their mark!
Whether it's a growth chart still scribbled in a kid's bedroom, or an entire antique bowling alley tucked under the floorboards, buying a house can come with all sorts of charming surprises.
In fact, it's totally possible to live in a house for years and still be discovering bits and pieces of the last owner's legacy.
That was certainly the case for one couple, who purchased a home back in 2014 and went two years before they noticed an incredible letter left behind by the previous owners.
The letter had slipped behind the fridge and gone unnoticed, until they finally tracked it down and learned the real story of the last owners.
Scroll through below to read the sweet note in full!

The note was posted online by Reddit user Bloatic, who explains that it's a "hidden note from previous owners we found behind the fridge," and adds, "Just found it after 2 years."
After reading, the homeowners quickly realized that it was a letter from the house's past owners, or possibly the past owner's child.
It's full of sweet tidbits about the home's history, as well as useful maintenance info.

It reads:
"To the new owners:
My parents bought this house in 1956 and lived here 58 years.
Their two children were born here."

"This house was a home for all those years.
Please treat the house with the respect it deserves.
It has been judiciously maintained for all those years."

"Roof installed 2001
Boiler installed 2008
Siding / Windows / Gutters 2004
Service upgrade to 200 amp 1994"

"Dense shade grass seed works best on lawns in front and back.
Sun/shade on the side by driveway.
All valves in basement are tagged.
Oil tank is new in 2010.
Good luck in your new home."

It's honestly the practical details that get us — you can just tell "these are some folks who really care about their home passing into good hands."
Boatic doesn't explain the story behind the house's sale, but it certainly sounds like it was the childhood home of the person who wrote the note, and that's a pretty powerful thing.
