This Remote Tiny House Cabin Is The Perfect Island Escape

When it comes to taking a vacation, I like to spend my time truly "getting away from it all."

And there are so many ways that people have chosen to escape from the hustle and bustle of day-to-day life with tiny houses — like with this remote tiny home in a redwood tree. So when I saw just how remote this tiny island cabin was, I definitely wanted to take a trip there.

I found this tiny cabin on Imgur from user sam_fujiyama. This brilliant DIYer not only built a lovely home, but he made something absolutely one-of-a-kind. In fact, it is one of the smallest vacation homes I've ever seen!

Built in a remote area of an island off the coast of British Columbia, this tiny house combines rustic beauty with the great outdoors for a perfect getaway destination.

Gabriola Island sits just off the coast of British Columbia in the Strait of Georgia.

And when this DIYer was searching for a location to build his tiny cabin getaway, he decided that Gabriola Island would be the absolute perfect spot.

This Imgur user chose to build such a tiny cabin for a few very specific reasons.

He writes, "In this area, accessory buildings don't need a permit if [less than] 108 Sq Ft… I also like the challenge of working with a small footprint."

The DIYer got to work on the cabin by putting in time on the weekends.

The project was particularly daunting, as the site of the house had no electricity. Much of the work had to be completed elsewhere, then brought to the remote location.

Having seen other cabins before, he wanted to make sure there would be plenty of head space, even if that meant sacrificing width.

He decided the front of the cabin would be roughly 14.5 feet high, and the back of the cabin would measure about 9 feet high.

In designing the roof, this clever DIYer was careful in choosing materials. He writes that when it came to the metal roof, it was important "to ensure it breathes properly and avoids moisture problems."

As work turned to the interior, he utilized large rechargeable batteries for lights to power his computer and play his music.

The walls were well-insulated and finished with "some nicer pine tongue and groove paneling."

He also installed plenty of extremely large windows to combat any feeling of claustrophobia and to truly immerse the house in the surrounding nature.

He covered the outside of the house with two different types of wood. On the bottom, he used "a simple black exterior stain" on some lovely cedar siding. For the top, he "found some rough cut shakes on Craigslist."

The finishing exterior touches were put on the cabin with some lovely paint and trim.

He truly made the most of his kitchen space with plenty of countertop room and storage below.

While he wouldn't have running water, he installed a sink for any runoff from his large kitchen water jug. This also meant that he would not have plumbing for a bathroom, opting instead to truly get "up close and personal" with nature.

This DIYer writes, "I wanted the loft to be super comfortable. With the large window, you can lie in the bed and look up at the stars."

Below the lofted bedroom was the small dining area, complete with a homemade wooden dining room table.

This Imgur user even installed a wood stove to keep the cabin warm during the colder months.

A porch was also added to the front. He writes, "It doubles the living space in the warmer months and makes it an awesome platform for watching the dragonflies and clouds go by."

This DIY tiny cabin truly is a one-of-a-kind creation.

This imaginative DIYer said the cabin-building process taught him many things: "Hard work and being in nature are deeply healing and fulfilling. Trust your instincts; you'll never be disappointed with the outcome."
