The Utter Inn was built in 2000 near Stockholm, Sweden. Utter means "otter" in Swedish, and the Utter Inn was given its name because the owners want their guests to feel as happy as an otter in a lake.
The hotel is a single underwater room nearly 10 feet below the surface on a small, floating, wooden hut. The only items inside are two beds and a table. However, it's what surrounds the Utter Inn that makes it so much more incredible.
The room is surrounded by panoramic windows in all directions, so you can watch the fish and underwater creatures swimming by all around you. It's the guests who are the ones inside the aquarium, not the fish.
The Utter Inn was created by artist and sculptor Mikael Genberg, who focuses on "making art for the public."
Guests of the Utter Inn arrive at the port of Västerås, where they are provided with an inflatable boat and instructions, and are then left alone. If they have selected the deluxe version, they will get a visit later with their dinner. Guests may also use the inflatable boat to visit the closest uninhabited island.
Whether they choose to swim in the busy waters, sunbathe on the upstairs deck, or just watch the fish as they swim by, the Utter Inn has attracted many guests who always have a good time…that is, of course, if they don't suffer from a bout of claustrophobia.
