Suzan Alig walked into the musty old Congregational Church where her son John attended Cub Scout meetings as a little boy.
The church, which was built in 1893, was about to be torn down by the city — but Suzan had other plans.
She envisioned what the church could be: a beautiful home for her and her family for generations to come.
"That’s it," Suzan told herself. "This is going to be my home."
She bought the church for $10,000. Her son John couldn't fathom why she would want to live inside such a decrepit building.
John agreed to oversee the renovations and make his mother's dream come true.
Nearly three years later, the "Kirchen Haus" became a gorgeous family home. They kept the original floors, the church bell, and the altar, and now seven staircases connect light-filled bedrooms and lofts.
