The Outside Is Bland, But What He Did Inside? I’m Stunned…

As you drive down the street or through your neighborhood, do you ever wonder what's going on behind closed doors? Sure, it's not polite to be nosy — but personally, I've always been curious to know what some of the homes I pass look like on the inside.

Maybe your neighbor is concealing something shocking, like a massive Coca-Cola collection? Or perhaps their kitchen is a beautiful time capsule from the 1950s? No matter what they contain, people's homes tend to reflect their innermost selves, and it can be intoxicating to get a glimpse.

That's why the home you're about to see — courtesy of the Mirror — is so amazing. Although its exterior is deceptively average, the interior is anything but — just like its talented, unique owner. I've never seen a house quite like this before!

Aside from its colorful trashcan, the exterior of this family home in Brighton, England seems totally normal. But at the hands of one retired grandfather, this average house contains a beautiful secret.

Robert Burns, a 67-year-old former decorator, has transformed his simple three-bedroom home into a gorgeous work of art — and all it cost him was the price of paint.

Though he was never taught how to paint — and has never stepped foot in Italy — this grandfather of three has modeled his humble home after none other but the Sistine Chapel!

For Robert, this impressive transformation all started with a yard sale. After picking up a $3 book on the Italian Renaissance, this self-taught artist knew he wanted his home to reflect the beauty of that time period.

So he got to painting. Ten years later — twice the time it took Michelangelo to paint the Sistine Chapel — Robert's masterpiece was complete.

"I have finally completed the job I set out to do, but it's really been a labour of love," he told Mirror. "I've enjoyed every step."

And despite never seeing the beauty of a Renaissance painting in person, Robert's home is now covered from head-to-toe in his impression of 16th-century art.

Since retiring five years ago, Robert has enjoyed pouring himself into his art — and he blames his wife for the house's incredible detail.

"I asked my wife Linda if she thought it looked like a dog's breakfast," Robert said of his first painting attempts. "She said she thought it was excellent, so I blamed her for me continuing."

Now, his impressive work has caught the eye of the world — including a local millionaire who's asked Robert to paint the ceiling of his luxurious ballroom.

But wherever Robert's talent takes him, he's happy with his Brighton home and has no intention of leaving it.

And the love he has for his home is evidenced by its beautiful frescos. "I'm very proud to be living here," Robert said.

But although his house is covered in Renaissance details — like gilded flowers, cherubs, and the Holy Family — Robert doubts his work is completely done.

"I am delighted it's finished," he said. "But to be honest I'll probably keep adding to it."

Now, his family and friends have grown accustomed to Robert's continual painting. His children and grandchildren "hardly notice it anymore," Robert said.

Judging by his amazing work, it's hard to believe that Robert taught himself from the pages of a book.
