Those April (snow) showers finally brought May flowers, and with springtime officially in full bloom, we've got buds on the brain. With the ability to amp up your décor and your mood at the same time, flowers are an amazing way to decorate without breaking the budget. Which flowers are you most attracted to? Is there a flower that seems to speak to your personality more than others? There’s probably a reason for that—since ancient times, different flowers have been associated with different personality traits. Here, we’ve set out to give you some design inspo when it comes to choosing which bouquet is best for your unique personality.
1. Roses
A vase of roses is a great choice if you’re a hopeless romantic at heart. There's a reason roses are pretty much the gold standard for weddings, Valentine’s Day gifts and anniversary arrangements. If you’re a rose lover, consider a long-stemmed bouquet of multi-colored roses in a tall, fluted vase. Or, for a lovely but casual look, fill a short, cylindrical vase with some monochromatic blooms.
2. Daisies
If you’re a happy-go-lucky girl with an optimistic view on life, daisies are the flower for you. It's hard to see a daisy, with its bright, sun-yellow center, and not feel happy. This popular flower has long been the symbol of happiness, and what’s more, these perennials are super easy to take care of if you choose to grow your own. Daisies lend themselves to just about any container, looking just as beautiful in a basic water cup as they do in a fluted vase.
3. Lilacs
Are you the kind of girl who calls her mom every day? Are your walls covered with family photos? If so, lilacs will probably catch your eye, as the purple flowers symbolize innocence and strong family ties. For use in your home, simply pop a bunch of abundant lilacs in a Mason jar and tie with raffia ribbon for an rustic-chic look.
4. Orchids
Might your friends describe you as exotic—and maybe a bit fussy when it comes to small details? If so, you share some personality traits with orchids! Tall, elegant, and exotically beautiful, the orchid makes quite a statement as a centerpiece, in much the same way that you probably do when you head out to face the day.
5. Tiger Lilies
If you take pride in your sense of self, your work, and the way you conduct your life, then you'd do well to get your eye on the tiger lily. There are many types of lilies, but the orange, or tiger, lily is associated with wealth and pride. Decorating with tiger lilies is easy; simply let these dramatic, star-shaped beauties speak for themselves with a tall, slender glass vase and minimal greenery.
6. Carnations
Like roses, carnations come in a variety of colors, which have each come to symbolize different things. However, if you’re a lover of these common (not to be confused with dull) and inexpensive blooms, you’re probably a no-fuss, down-to-earth kind of gal. And since these flowers aren’t exactly budget busters, you can create a bountiful bouquet without going broke. Looking to mix things up? Carnations pair beautifully with roses, lilies, and daisies in a display.
7. Peonies
Peonies are marked by their bountiful orange-red petals and striking black center, a color combo as bold and adventurous as the people who gravitate toward them. You likely love to travel, and you’re at your happiest when each day is just a little bit different than the last. Not only that, your choice of bold, colorful fabrics guarantee that you’re catching all eyes wherever you roam.
8. Tulips
Just about everyone likes tulips. They’re lovely and sweet, and tend to be crowd pleasers. Chances are, if you’re a tulip lover, this describes your personality as well. You likely maintain a cheerful but simple home, and have a large and active friend group, since you’re so easy-going and fun to be around.
9. Sunflowers
Sunflowers, as the name suggests, spend their entire lives reaching for the sun—if you identify as an eternal optimist, reach for one of the large, daisy-like flowers. Whether you have the real estate (lucky!) to plant your own bed of sunflowers, or you just keep a few of these big, cheerful blooms on your bedside table or desk, they're sure to bring a smile to the face of anyone who visits and brighten up the entire room…kind of like you.
10. Calla Lilies
A staple flower for black-tie weddings and all manner of classy affairs, the calla lily signifies decorum and elegance. If you're the strong, silent, slightly intense type, you're likely to drawn to them. We're guessing you're a perfectionist (in a good way) who works hard to maintain a beautiful home and workspace. When it comes to your wardrobe, classic, well-tailored statement pieces are likely your go-to.
