Sean Casey Animal Rescue had their work cut out for them when they received a call on Saturday morning from someone who said they had spotted a cardboard box full of guinea pigs in New York's Prospect Park.
When the animal rescue eventually tracked down the guinea pigs, the creatures were no longer in the box and had been seen scampering through the wooded area. (Although it is illegal to leave animals in the park, animals continue to be discarded in cardboard boxes.)
"We got a call this morning about approximately 25 guinea pigs in boxes. When we arrived, we found somebody had dumped the boxes and released the pigs into the woods in Prospect park. It took over two hours, but we caught them all," Sean Casey Animal Rescue wrote on their Facebook page.
The rescuers found 27 guinea pigs — who were all in good health. The friendly rodents are in need of homes and are available for adoption at the SCAR shelter on East Third Street off Fort Hamilton Parkway in Kensington. They cost $10 each.
Guinea pigs are short-tailed, rough-haired South American rodents, who actually make perfect pets. The animals great for kids because they are calm, easy to care for and have a lot of personality, according to the shelter.
Let's help these guinea pigs find a loving home, so please SHARE this with everyone you know on Facebook.
