It's hard to believe that 14 years have gone by since September 11, 2001.
I'll never forget what I was doing or how I felt on that fateful Tuesday morning. Like many Americans, the horrifying images of the worst international terrorist attack in history are engrained in my mind for the rest of my life. However, when I think of 9/11, I always associate it with the one symbol of our nation's strength, perseverance and hoped that shined bright through on our country's darkest day: the American flag.
As you can see in this powerful story about a man who stood up for what is right and insisted a tattered flag in his hometown be replaced, Old Glory means so much to each and every American, especially on this day of remembrance.
Although the students at Milton High School in North Fulton County, GA were too young to remember the events, growing up in a post 9/11 world has given them a sense of true empathy for all those who were affected. That's why, for the 8th year in a row, the students teamed up with local firefighters to place 2,996 flags outside of the high school to memorialize every victim of that awful day.
On the morning of September 11, the entire community gathered to commemorate the lives lost and those who will never forget.
