The Tiny House Movement possesses a lot of American values, like ingenuity and resourcefulness — but did you know that the movement has gone international?
Just take a peek at our mini abode archive here at LittleThings. You’ll find dwarf-sized dwellings all over the world, such as those in Mexico, Switzerland, Poland, and Japan. Each have distinctive styles that blend and borrow from their environments while honoring the cultures that built them.
For instance, take the house in Bali that's made entirely out of bamboo, a native wood source from Indonesia. It also utilizes other native materials such as local boulders that the designer used to carve counter slabs.
We have found another beautiful bungalow in Bali to share with you. It’s called “White Elephant,” and it’s a 750-square-foot villa with an open-air design that allows guests to fully enjoy its exotic environment. Check it out below.

The White Elephant is a three-story, 750-square-foot guesthouse in Bali on a half-acre of land.

It is modeled after a traditional Balinese barn known as a lumbung.

The vaulted ceiling is made of alang-alang, a type of grass that is also known as Japanese blood grass.

The tropical climate allows for an open-air design and most rooms are partially outside, though they feel like they are still completely inside.

In fact, the only room in this house that is fully enclosed is the toilet.

Even the bathtub is outside on a deck. Not to worry, though! There are curtains if the tropical plumage doesn’t provide enough privacy.

“This is a dream space like no other,” the owners of White Elephant say of the bedroom.

“On moonlit nights there is nothing more evocative than lying in the elegantly-dressed king bed looking out the stunning glass wall to the moon as it hovers languidly behind the jungle and towering palms.”

A king-sized bed is dressed with crisp white linen and is engulfed by traditional Balinese carved bidadari angles.

The third level offers a small loft, which is an intimate space meant for reading or meditation.

It also has views of a garden, pond, fountain, and a sacred village beyond.

The outside deck has French windows and an opening to a garden.

The deck is also protected and has a large day bed perfect for lounging before heading into a more intimate room.

The deck leads into the outdoor tub and shower, which is perfect for a couple planning a romantic getaway.

It is an enchanting home that glows as brightly as the “fireflies that dance before your eyes,” that the owners say you’re sure to see when visiting White Elephant.
