It's never too late to learn something new, and this grandma is living proof! Donna Holmes, 80, learned how to surf after being taught by her granddaughter, Brisa Hennessy.
In a video shared to Brisa's Instagram that has garnered over 2 million views, the special moment shows Donna conquering surfing during a birthday trip to Fiji with her family. "This is 80!!!!" the post on Instagram read. "It’s never too late to catch a wave, it’s never too late. 🙂 So special sharing my happy place with my grandma. ."
Brisa, a professional athlete, spoke with Good Morning America about the special moment. "It was a picture perfect day, the sun was out, there was no wind and it was small and glassy conditions," she shared. "I acted like it was spontaneous but the real reason I wanted her to come to Fiji was to surf with me. We had nothing going on that day and so I was like, 'Grandma we are going surfing!'"
Her grandmother agreed without hesitation, and Brisa described her as "the firecracker, no hold back, adventure seeker, arms and hearts wide open lady," sharing that she engages in many activities to stay fit. "I think it's the combination of her genuine curiosity and zest for life that keeps her so young and vibrant."
